**Update March 4, 2010: The Disney Give a Day Get a Disney Day program is quickly coming to an end. Disney vowed to give out 1 million free passes to its theme parks in exchange for a day of volunteering. If you're registered for a qualifying volunteer event through the Disney Parks web site, a ticket has been reserved for you anticipating your successful completion of the volunteer day.
You've likely seen the commercials from Disney Parks offering a free day at one of the Disney theme parks in exchange for a day of volunteer service. This is a great opportunity for charities, schools, hospitals and nonprofits to reward their regular volunteers and attract new ones. It's also a fantastic way to try a new volunteer opportunity and get a free day at Disney in exchange.
In order to volunteer and get the free Disney day, volunteers must register at www.disneyparks.com. There you will find local organizations that are participating. You can sign up for their volunteer events. The listing only shows opportunities for the next 60 days so keep checking back. Additional volunteer opportunities are being added regularly.
If you are a nonprofit organization and would like to list your volunteer opportunities, you can do that at http//:vop.handsonnetwork.org.
You must be willing to verify the volunteer's service within 72 hours of its completion. You don't have to ask the volunteer to give you 8 hours of time. That's up to you. In other words, if your volunteer event only takes 4 hours, you could verify service for those 4 hours for your volunteer to get their certificate for a free Disney day.
Disney is offering these free days until Dec. 15 or until 1 million volunteer opportunities have been completed, whichever comes first. When you sign up to volunteer at a particular project, a certificate for a free Disney day is reserved for you.
